German cockroach are insects that have adapted to man’s environment. One oothecal egg case can contain up to 40 eggs they produce many eggs with their infestation they rapidly grow to extremes.

The German cockroach can thrive on minute amounts of human food scraps and moisture.
German cockroach is nocturnal (active at night), excellent climbers and can fit into smallest cracks because of structure and slender shape.

German cockroach pass through three life stages: egg (ootheca) capsule – nymph – adult
Nymphs grow and shed their skins through many stages
Nymphs are smaller but resemble adults, don’t have wings and are quick moving. German Cockroaches have chewing mouthparts.
German cockroach remains in dark warm confined spaces & crack when not seeking food or water and they thrive in these conditions.
German Cockroach defecate they leaving small dark brown specks which look like pepper which may be useful in detecting an infestation.

CONTROL MEASURES NON-CHEMICAL

German cockroach control program, sanitation is one of the first things to consider. German Cockroaches are carriers of disease. German Cockroaches can spread food poisoning Salmonella bacteria & have also been implicated in allergic reactions. Make sure food is not left in sink strainers.
German Cockroaches also consume human food, so by leaving food out you are feeding them. No food left out in the open food containers must be sealed. Keep dishes clean, no residue of food remaining.
All kitchen appliances (microwaves, toasters, ovens, refrigerators & stoves) should be maintained in a clean condition so that it is food free & grease-free.
Sweeping or vacuuming of any food particles or crumbs.
Get rid of empty soft drink bottles, paper bags, and cardboard boxes.
German Cockroaches have been found to short circuit electrical appliances causing fires & breakdowns in ovens, fridge motors, microwave oven clocks.

Thorough cleaning will deprive German Cockroaches of their food source.
Food splatters should be cleaned up promptly on cupboard doors, dishwashers, stoves, floors back of fridge & seals.
Sealing openings will prevent German Cockroaches from entering difficult places and eliminate harbourage.
Garbage should be placed in sealed bins and moved out of the house in the evening.
Pet food should not be left out continuously but picked up after feeding.
Repair any leaking plumbing. Avoid allowing clutter of newspapers, magazines, or piles of clothing to accumulate. This will also reduce harbourage.

Check incoming boxes or bags of groceries or other materials to prevent bringing German Cockroaches in with them. This includes personal items, fruit boxes, open food & spice packets in pantry.
